| Daniel “Danny” Hopper was born on February 8, 1955 in Fresno California, the 2nd child and only son of Chandler and Clara Hopper. Dan was a good son and a fantastic brother and was greatly loved by his family. Danny was Grandma's favorite - her red-headed kid was the only boy out of 11 cousins. Dan was forced by circumstances to drop out of High School at 16 to support himself and he was consistently employed as a Carpenter for the rest of his life. His talents, hard work and work ethics were valued by his employers.
While Dan was a successful Carpenter, his avocation was art and creative woodwork. Danny and Julie began their romance in 1975 and they had two children together, Paul and Cindy. Dan and Julie had a rocky relationship but they were dedicated parents. Dan was a loving, doting father who relished the time he spent with his children. Because both children were less than 4 years old when Danny was killed, Dan didn't have the opportunity to see his children grow up and his children never really got a chance to know their father. |

| MURDER By the fall of 1979, Danny and his girlfriend Julie had been together for almost 5 years and they had two small children. Danny and Julie separated for a few months during which time Julie began seeing Perry Law. By April 1980, Dan and Julie reconciled but Perry Law did not accept that his relationship with Julie had ended.
There were several confrontations between Danny and Perry Law over a period of several weeks. But, on the evening of Sunday, April 13, 1980, Danny and Perry Law shook hands and agreed to resolve their differences peacefully. The next day Perry Law spent the afternoon drinking and target shooting. He then drove over to Julie’s apartment and after a brief conversation, pulled out a gun and began threatening her. While holding her at gunpoint, Perry Law told Julie “if I can’t have you, no man will.” Danny routinely visited Julie and his children daily after work and that afternoon was no different. Danny got off work, cleaned up and then rode his new motorcycle to Julie's place. When Danny walked up to the Julie's door, Julie screamed “Danny, he’s got a gun - he’s going to kill you!” But Julie and his children were in that apartment so Danny went through the door. Perry Law shot Danny three times in the chest before Danny fell to the ground. Perry then kicked Danny, turned him over and shot him twice more to deliver the fatal wounds. With Danny dying on the ground, Perry Law pulled Julie outside at gunpoint and tried to steal Julie’s car. That didn’t work so he broke into another apartment and held the neighbor hostage at gunpoint until he was captured by the police. |
